Why kids need independence

I just finished reading this rather interesting article on ninemsn. It discusses the implications of excessive parental input into a child's recreational activities. Personally, I thought that there were some similarities between what the article was saying, and what was happening in my own life. I never truly enjoyed studying as it was almost forced upon me from an early age. I rarely produced art I was content with, thanks (or no thanks) to mother who instilled in me the idea art was a gift ascribed to a select group of individuals.
