Gadget envy

Gadget envy (n): the perceived superiority of another person's technological possessions over one's own. Colloquially known as Shiny Things Envy.
Being in a corporate environment provides ample opportunities for this phenomenon to occur. I can clearly recall from my first week at Challenger the plethora of shiny Blackberries and iPhones. Eventually, I got myself a relatively cheap smartphone in my third week - my Nokia E71. Finally, at the beginning of the month, I caved and brought myself an iPod Touch 8GB (Me and my iPod Touch). I also started pondering the possibilties of getting an iPhone a few weeks ago. Eventually I decided not to get one.
I guess the same could be said for iPod Touch applications. In the first few weeks after purchasing my iPod, I was downloading apps left right and centre. At the moment, there aren't any apps that I want that much.
I noticed that once I stop wanting something, I don't give it much thought thereafter.

  2. Indeed. Plus, if your phone rings, you gotta stop playing Angry Birds to answer it...
