Crochet Drawstring Bag

The finished product. Accessories not included.
This bag was made using a 4mm hook and 8ply Merino wool.
Base
Start by making 3 loops around a finger (the tail should be facing your fingertip). Insert the hook from the fingertip under the first 2 loops and grab the last loop with your hook. Pull this loop under the other 2 loops to form a 2 strand foundation loop. Ch 1 into the centre, work 6 dc, ss into the first dc. Pull the loops and the tail to tighten.

  • R1: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, [2 dc in next st] around, ss in 1st dc to join. (12 dc)
  • R2: Ch 1, 2 dc in next st, [1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] around, ss in 1st dc to join. (18 dc)
  • R3 - R15: Add 1 dc between each 2 dc cluster for each subsequent round. After R15, you should have 96 dc.

Body

  • R16 - R40: Ch 2, 1 htr in each st. (96 htr)
  • R41 - R44: Ch 1, 1 dc in each st. (96 dc)
  • R45: Ch 2, htr in next 5 sts, [ch 2, skip 2 sts, htr in next 10 sts] 7 times, ch 2, skip 2 sts, htr in next 5 sts. (8 ch-2 spaces)
  • R46 - R50: Ch 1, 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.

Cord
Using 2 lengths of yarn, create a chain equal to the circumference of the top of the bag + 20cm + 1ch to turn, ss in 2nd ch st, ss to end. Fasten off and weave in ends.
