Sewing on the go

My original plan was to make a new crochet hook roll, after seeing several tutorials online.

A few weeks ago, I found a tutorial for making a little sewing kit. I really wanted to try it, so I went shopping on Friday to get the stuff I'd need. To my annoyance, Lincraft didn't have a plastic canvas circles (which the tute called for). After checking at Morris and Sons, which also didn't have any, I went back to Lincraft and brought the plastic canvas sheet, green cotton fabric, matching thread and folding scissors. I had to revise the design, since I couldn't get any plastic canvas circles. The finished article wasn't the prettiest-looking thing I've made. It was meant to have a sheet of felt on the right for the needles and pins and a pocket on the left for the other sewing notions. The case itself had pieces of plastic canvas to strengthen it.
The mangled case
I found another tutorial for putting together a travel sewing kit via Google Search. It actually shows how to put together a kit for embroidery and one for general sewing/mending. After failing to find a flat craft tin at the craft stores in Parramatta, I tried a rectangular candy tin (with a similar rate of success). I ended up using a candy tin I found while digging around the cupboards. I also made a little needle book from the same fabric as the mangled needle case.
